LIEZEL POSTHUMUS PHOTOGRAPHY

I never thought of myself as a photographer. When I was young, my dream was to become an artist and graphic designer, but I soon realized that drawing and painting were more of a hobby for me and as soon as it felt like work it became an unenjoyable experience. At the beginning of my studies in graphic design, I realised how much I hated doing things as others wanted and not the way I wanted. I felt my creativity was being limited and that on its own demotivated me to the point that I did not want to carry on.

 

Throughout High School I enjoyed taking pictures when I went out with friends and always edited my images afterwards. This was something I really loved doing and as the years passed I became better at it, so much so that I was asked to take pictures for a Wedding with my small Samsung Galaxy Camera and I edited all the images using Candy Camera on my phone…yes, I edited all my images using a cell phone app and no one even noticed the difference! But, I wanted to improve, I wanted better quality images because I knew if I just had better gear and software I could offer so much more! So I moved away from using a phone app to using editing software like Coral Paint Shop and Lightroom, moved away from using a digital camera to using a DSLR camera. I still have plenty to learn in this space and feel Photoshop would be the next step in my photography journey.

 

So that is the story on how I came to be an amateur photographer. The people that know me, know that I am very shy (an introvert) so I don’t advertise myself in the typical way but at the end of the day my work really speaks for itself.
